SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
BEREAVEMENT FRIENDS
The main goal of this group is to express to the bereaved family the compassion of the Church community. The group also provides services such as help with arrangements, Rosaries, notifying friends, etc.

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS
CDA, the largest organization of Catholic women in the world, combines voices, hands, talents, and finances to care for abused women and children, the hungry, the homeless, the aged and handicapped, AIDS victims, drug and alchohol abusers, to support priests and seminarians, youth and profile programs, to give aid to disaster stricken areas, and to fight legislation that is in direct contradiction with Catholic beliefs. Besides national projects, CDA members are active locally in such programs as Associated Catholic Charities, Twin Oaks Nursing Home birthday parties, Covenant House, St. John Ministry of Care, Habitat for Humanity and terminally ill children. Catholic women eighteen years or older are invited to join. Meetings are held at 2:30 PM on the first Tuesday of each month in the LaCour Center in Reserve.

CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE
During Advent each year, names of needy children are placed as ornaments on the Giving Tree located at the rear of the Church. Parishioners are invited to take an ornament and purchase an age appropriate gift. Gifts may be placed in the box under the tree or delivered to the rectory. The gifts are distributed on the last Sunday of Advent. Donations may be given throughout the year.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
The Knights of Columbus is a international association of Catholic men dedicated to charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. The fraternity partakes in national and international projects, and serves the local Church, school and community. Assistance to the poor and needy is a high priority. Membership is open to men 18 years and older who are practicing Catholics, and who have a desire to pursue the goals of the fraternity. (A practicing Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the Precepts of the Church.)

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS WOMEN'S AUXILIARY
The Msgr. Bergeron Kaycee Auxiliary was organized to help the Knights of Columbus in their projects. The ladies of the Auxiliary are practicing Catholics and related to a Knight. Some projects sponsored by the group are: a community birthday party and Christmas party at Twin Oaks Nursing Home. The Auxiliary provides First Communion dresses for needy children. Members of the group work for the St. Joan of Arc School Fair and the Family Picnic Day.

PRO-LIFE MINISTRY
The Pro-Life Ministry is to maintain an awareness in the parish of the teachings of the Church concerning the sacredness of life, artificial contraception, sterilization, abortion, and euthanasia. Parishioners are also alerted to pending legislation affecting life issues and are assisted in contacting their legislators.

THE GOLDEN OAKS
This group is a social outlet for our parishioners over the age of 50. They meet on a monthly basis, usually the second Wednesday of every month, for fellowship and activity/speaker. They also plan outings to local areas of interest.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
The St. Vincent de Paul Society provides emergency assistance to the needy in our community to help prevent them from being evicted or utilities from being disconnected. Applications are filled out in the parish office and the committee meets to review applications on a weekly basis.

THRIFT SHOP
The Thrift Shop is an informal organization of volunteers who solicit used clothing and household goods for resale. The donations are sold at prices that allow good bargains for the needy and the proceeds are then donated to charitable causes. Clothing and household articles are provided to the destitute without charge. Some of the proceeds have been used to build a building for this operation and to provide housing for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank. The Shop, located at 370 Fir Street, is open Mondays and Fridays, 9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon and donations may be brought at these times. Volunteers are always needed. Meetings are held three times per year.

ST. JOHN MINISTRY OF CARE
The purpose of this ecumenical organization is to provide for the emergency needs of teh poor in the area. Volunteers interview those seeking help to access their needs: for example, food baskets and payment of utility and medication bills. Volunteers are needed for this ministry. The office and distribution center is at 532 West 5th Street and is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
